The Fine Art of Protecting What’s Important

July, 1969

The world witnessed one of the most remarkable moments in human history

Zero Halliburton celebrates this towering achievement, the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, on its 50th anniversary, and reflects on our role to support the mission with a five-part series: Precious Cargo.

A Box for Rocks

(AKA The Most Priceless Cargo in History)

The challenge for Apollo 11: Bring moon rocks back without turning them into moon dust. To accomplish the task, the Zero Halliburton containers that carried the lunar samples were constructed of lightweight, rugged aluminum alloy, with a triple seal. Inside, the cases were modified to provide maximum protection: A special aluminum alloy mesh was developed to cushion samples from the dynamic forces of space travel, re-entry, and splashdown.

Erle Halliburton’s aluminum luggage was invented to meet needs ordinary cases couldn’t, and it quickly earned a reputation for being the best in the world. In the summer of 1969, modified cases would prove to be the best on another world, too. Fifty years later, this same legendary capability and spirit of innovation continues to inspire Zero Halliburton owners to create custom cases for ultimate precious cargo protection.

The Fragile, the Irreplaceable, the Unusual:

A few of Our Favorite Custom-Case Builds

Zero Halliburton aluminum luggage was born as a custom solution to protect sensitive equipment, so it’s no surprise that for decades it’s been the go-to choice for anyone traveling with delicate products or gear. Over the years, we’ve seen some really creative Zero Halliburton aluminum luggage modifications. Here are a few of the most inventive solutions to the question, “How do I get it there in one piece?”

Pro Tips from Apollo 11:

3 Ways to Up Your Travel Transport Game

1. Extra Protection, Not Extra Weight 1. Extra Protection, Not Extra Weight

1. Extra Protection, Not Extra Weight

From noise-cancelling headphones to tablets and laptops, travel today means taking your favorite gear with you. If you want it to arrive in working condition, protection from the wear and tear of airports, taxis, and hotels is a must. Cases, like this custom Zero Halliburton aluminum watch case, provide maximum, ultra-lightweight protection. Hard exterior shells and lined interiors shield and cushion from the bumps, knocks, and rattles of life on the road. Also, did we mention it’s lightweight?

2. Upon Further Review…How to Avoid Inspection Damage

Moving through airports and terminals often means screening and inspections. If your bag is inspected, neatly packed gear will minimize the possibility of damage. Pros who travel for business keep their sensitive equipment easy to see and access, stowed in dedicated compartments (think: MESA, Lunar Module, Episode 2). Instead of throwing everything into the same bag, use a separate case for equipment, like this Master and Dynamic/Zero Halliburton aluminum case, to ensure a speedy, damage-free trip through security checkpoints.

3. You’re Traveling, Not Moving 3. You’re Traveling, Not Moving

3. You’re Traveling, Not Moving

Whether you’re traveling to London or to the moon, every trip is different. Destination, airport, hotel, duration, and the reason for the trip all play a role in determining what should or shouldn’t make it into your luggage. Travel pros edit their wardrobe and gear according to trip details, using compartments to protect sensitive gear. Just like the lunar sample cases, dedicated cases for the most vulnerable items are smart and practical (if your camera gets turned into a paperweight by a careless valet, this will make complete sense). So, take what you need, leave what you don’t.
